King Edward's Bay

Surf Spot

Description

A small, sheltered cove tucked beneath Tynemouth Priory and Castle, with the Tyne piers just around the corner. The steps keep the crowds down, and it can hold cleaner waves than Longsands when the wind isn't quite right. Pirate legend says a smuggler kept watch over the Black Middens from a cave cut into the cliff here.
